Bohemian Forest
An enormous range of mountains, stretching approx. 120km along south-west Bohemia, running along the borders of Germany and Austria. The region is famous for its healthy forest land, and picturesque lakes which were formed during the Ice Ages. In 1962 this region was declared one of the largest Nature Reserves (1630 q/km) in the Czech Republic. The highest mountain on the czech side is the Plechy Mountain (1378m), and on the german side it is the Big Arber Muntain (1456m). On both sides of the border are very good conditions for skiing, and following the opening of the borders in 1989, tourism for winter holidays in this region has become increasingly popular. The best ski regions in Czech Rep., lay between 750m and 1050m. On the german side they lay between 500m and 1050m. In all the regions there are plentiful opportunities for cross-country skiing, as well as many ski schools and hire of all ski equipment.
